Our success formula is all about
People – People – People
Logistics – Logistics– Logistics
Sounds a bit simple? Well – maybe, but in some cases keeping it simple is the key, and in fact it all boils down to this: It’s about getting the right people together, and having the right materials available at the right time.
However, getting to this simple solution requires solid project management in close collaboration with people with the right competence and expertise – and with the very important factor, the right attitude. – And then to keep the momentum, and always make sure the quality is in place.
It’s about getting the right people together, and having the right materials available at the right time.

Case Study
Cruise Cabin refurbishment | Cruise Bathroom refurbishment
950 bathrooms on 5 ships with only 11 days per ship
Situation
The cruise line was in a situation where the pax bathrooms did not live up to the standard of the rest of the ship. All cabin bathrooms needed to be fully renovated including repairs of steel under old tiles, and new technical installations.
The challenge
To avoid taking the ships out of service unnecessary, the cruise line challenged us to renovate all the bathrooms onboard within the timeframe of about 14 days. This was an immense challenge as we had estimated the timeframe to be about 30 days per ship.
So, how could we solve this?
In close and productive collaboration with Holland America, we prepared a progressive plan based on improving by learning. After thorough planning it was agreed that the first ship should be done in 27 days. Issues were detected and solved, and processes were improved.
People and logistics turned out to be key factors for success. For example, wrapping all interior components for each cabin separately, and making templates for installations reduced working hours for about 20% in that task alone. Adjusting the teams and handpicking personnel to the various tasks also improved the speed. Processes for demolition, plumbing work, tiling, logistics, etc. were optimized. The minutes saved in various operations in each bathroom made substantial impact on the total installation time.
The result
Our focus on improving by learning turned out to be extremely successful. During this process we reduced number of days in drydock from 27 to 11 days on the same number of bathrooms refurbished. Pretty amazing but proven possible!
